Invited by APIA (Agency for the promotion of agricultural investment in Tunisia), Véronique Bellon-Maurel gave a lecture on digital technology at the SIAT 2018 International Forum on “ICT for agriculture”, on 9 October 2018 in Tunis.
The presentation by Véronique Bellon-Maurel, “From precision agriculture to digital agriculture: the vision of the #DigitAg Convergence Lab”, also included a part on the French and EU agendas on digital agriculture. The conference gave the floor to two other French experts and to several Tunisian start-ups proposing digital solutions for agriculture. These include applications to monitor conditions in aquaculture ponds, a connected hive, and a drone manufacturer.
Contacts were established with the representatives of the Tunisian Ministries of Agriculture and Communication Technologies and Digital Economy.
Véronique Bellon-Maurel comments on these first exchanges:
Tunisia has a strong interest in digital agriculture, which is enshrined in its National Strategic Plan, “Digital Tunisia 2020”. There is much to be done in Tunisia, with key products such as olives, aquaculture and citrus fruits.
Furthermore, several consultancy and investment firms came to meet the #DigitAg research-training-innovation in digital agriculture ecosystem. These first contacts with public and private officials should be followed by other meetings.
